Saint Joseph's Primary School, Summerhill, is a co-educational Roman Catholic school, where we promote a nurturing and inclusive environment. We endeavor to instill in our pupils a love of learning, respect for themselves, respect for all other people and respect for their environment.
History Of Our School
Summerhill National School got its name from the fact that people all around would cycle out to this area called 'Crannagh' on a Summers day to picnic. The school became know as Summerhill.
Our school crest has the words "S.N. Cnoc an TSamhraid" printed on a yellow ribbon forming an arc at the top of the crest. The crest can be seen on a specially designed flag that flies proudly in the school grounds. The image of the mill reminds us of the area's history.
Crannagh Mill is situation on the Cross River near the school.

Induction Day For New Starters 2018
New Junior Infant children attended an Induction session at the school. Our principal Tracy O Rallaghaigh, our Junior Infant Teachers Ms Gilleran & Ms Gately facilitated the induction.
The hour induction was centered around the children starting in September 2018. It gives each child an opportunity to get to know other children and their teacher and gives them the opportunity to feel comfortable in the classroom surrounding. We hope it will ease the inevitable concerns that new Junior Infant students and their parents have about starting primary school.
While the new children were busy the school in conjunction with Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) hosted a 45 minute long seminar to help parents prepare their children for primary school. It was a very informative and positive seminar and it assisted parents with the do's and dont's for primary school preparations.
